Getting around

Riomaggiore is easy to reach and well connected to the other Cinque Terre villages.

🚆 By train: This is the easiest and most convenient option. Riomaggiore’s train station is just a short walk from the centre and provides quick connections to all the other Cinque Terre towns (Manarola 2 min, Vernazza 10 min, Monterosso 15 min).

🚗 By car: You can drive up to the paid parking area at the top of the village, as cars are not allowed in the centre.

🚤 By boat: From spring to autumn, ferries run regularly between Riomaggiore, the other Cinque Terre villages, La Spezia, Lerici and Portovenere — a scenic and relaxing way to explore the coast.

🥾 On foot: For hiking lovers, Riomaggiore is connected to the other villages by spectacular trails within the Cinque Terre National Park.

Neighbourhood

Riomaggiore is the first of the five villages that make up the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Cinque Terre, and one of the most authentic and picturesque.

Built along a steep valley descending toward the sea, its colorful houses seem to climb on top of each other, creating a postcard-perfect view above the tiny harbor. You can wander through narrow medieval alleys, discover romantic corners, and taste the local Ligurian specialties such as focaccia, pesto, and the sweet wine Sciacchetrà.

Top experiences include: The Via dell’Amore (Path of Love), the iconic coastal walk connecting Riomaggiore and Manarola (scheduled to reopen soon).

Hiking trails within the Cinque Terre National Park offering spectacular sea views. Swimming or boat trips from Riomaggiore’s bay to enjoy breathtaking sunsets along the coast. Riomaggiore is well connected by train to the other Cinque Terre villages (Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso) and is the perfect base to explore the entire region.
